Used Canoes Wanted

My husband and I live at Spring Lake, Ab. I am looking for two canoes for decorative purposes. A leak or so does not matter however; would like to purchase in relatively good condition. My contact number are 780-968-1911 or 780-405-2191. Thanks.

2013 Fort McKay First Nations Treaty Days Voyageur Canoe Race

2013 Fort McKay First Nations Treaty Days Voyageur Canoe Race

25 foot canoes powered by 6-10 paddlers per canoe will paddle 50k from Fort McMurray to Fort MacKay along the original highway to the north, the Athabasca River.

FORT MCKAY FIRST NATIONS CANOE EVENT ON THE ATHABASCA RIVER JUNE 21, 2013

The Athabasca River has been the highway to the resources of the north for hundreds of years.  The original modes of travel on this river highway were birch bark canoes.  First Nations peoples and companies like the Hudson Bay Company and the North West Company used canoes to transport the Athabasca Region resources to and from the rest of Canada and the world.  The preferred canoe to transport the northern resources was a 25 foot canoe called the north canoe which was paddled by 6 paddlers.  Today these canoes are called big canoes; they range from 22 ft to 34 ft.

Come join the Fort McKay community celebrate the Fort McKay Treaty Days (June 20-June 23) and discover the beautiful and historical Athabasca River.

Trophies, prizes, dinner, camping and entertainment provided with participation.

The time is right to reintroduce the big canoe to the Athabasca Region to connect people and communities through a low impact heritage event.
