Introduction to Recreational Kayaking

Interested in fishing, bird-watching, or just relaxing in a small kayak, but don't know where to start? 

Learn the basics of recreational kayaking in a safe environment to begin your paddling adventures. This clinic is designed for those with no paddling experience. Once you've completed the clinic you'll be able to how to paddle a recreational kayak in good weather on calm ponds and lakes.  

This clinic is intended for those who wish to learn the fundamentals of recreational kayaking with a certified instructor. Further paddling opportunities such as club trips and intermediate instruction will be discussed.

All graduates are welcome to paddle at Rundle with the club throughout the summer.  

Outline

The dry land portion covers:

  • Kayak and paddling gear,
  • Safety considerations,
  • Further paddling opportunities, and 
  • Benefits of the club.

The water sessions covers:

  • Getting in and out of the boat,
  • Fundamental paddling strokes (forward, sweeps, draws)
  • Maneuvering the boat, and 
  • Safety & kayak rescue.

Schedule

This clinic is scheduled based on interest, so contact the Sea and Recreational Kayak Coordinator, as soon as possible. Sessions will appear in the the club calendar when the required minimum number of participants has been reached.

Equipment

All paddling gear will be provided onsite. You are encouraged to bring your own kayak if you've purchased one.

There are only 6 places available for each session of this clinic so please register early.
