Whitewater Kayaking 1 Day Intro Clinic

Have you taken a kayak pool basics course and are now looking to get out and paddle a river? This clinic is designed to get you out on your first whitewater river in one day!

Learn the skills and maneuvers to paddle in rapids on a class I+ river so that you can join in on club trips. The day starts with a session on technique in an easy eddy. You will learn to paddle in a current and perform eddy turns and ferries. The afternoon will be spent on a short river run and some self rescue basic skills.

Note this clinic is a combination of the NWV Intro to Moving Water clinic and the first day of the NWV Whitewater Kayaking Basics course.

Outline

The clinic covers:

  • River Safety,
  • Introduction to eddy in & outs and ferries, and
  • River feature identification - eddy, wave, hole, and strainers.

Equipment

Club boats and equipment are available free of charge. Please make arrangements with the Equipment Manager well before the session.

You will need to transport the paddling equipment to and from the river.

You'll need to provide your own personal gear: a farmer John/Jane wetsuit, thermal layers, paddling jacket, gloves & booties and protective footwear. If you have any questions about these items, contact the instructor.
